It was an exciting week for defenders from the Mighty 97th, with classes like hand to hand combat training, advanced shooting tactics as well as team based scenarios. For the duration of the week, airmen worked side by side with Controlled Force trainers to maximize readiness and capability.

These guys are teaching advanced skills and our objective is to get everybody on a standard of training, a more advanced standard of training and that's what these guys are here to do and everything they've taught us thus far in the week has been things that we've never seen before and the guys are loving it and our tactics are definitely going to improve here in the states, as well as when we deploy.

The training emphasized taking down enemy combatants safely and securely. Combat Arms Instructor, Senior Airman Christian Calvillo, says that he's excited to pass along the training to others in his squadron.

We're getting trained by a lot of subject matter experts that have training backgrounds in various different areas that we don't have and we're able to get taught those tools and with the understanding that we have from it, we can teach other people on our flight.

For Instructor Heath Jackson, that's one of his highest priorities. Spreading the knowledge and leaving defenders like Airman Calvillo with new techniques to incorporate into training.

We try to leave it to where the retainment from them leaves sustainment trainers behind to help get the program going, as the more they see it the more they become better instructors to take our job and pursue our role in training their other airmen on post.

While the airmen trained here will be better equipped to deal with these scenarios, they will take this training with them throughout their career. For the Mighty 97th, I'm Airman James Johnson.
