ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A C-17 Globemaster III takes off from Altus AFB Feb. 4. The C-17 is relocating to Kelly AFB to temporarily continue flight training for the aircrews to the severe ice storm that swept through the area Jan. 28. ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- (From left) Senior Airman Raymond Salazar and Ryan Gava, Airman 1st Class Chris Schaaf, and Airman 1st Class Thomas Baszler raise the flag at the Wings of Freedom Park on Feb 3. A 1 1/2-inch thick coating of ice forced the base to take down the flag Jan. 28. The flag raising ceremony symbolizes the determination and resiliency of all Altus Airmen as they recover the base from the worst area storm in 62 years. ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Altus AFB families take shelter at the Fitness Center Feb. 1. More than 200 Airmen and their families have taken shelter at the Fitness Center and the Medical Clinic during the power outage, which was cause by an ice storm Jan. 28. The Fitness Center, Medical Clinic and Solar Inn Dining facilities were designated as shelter locations.
