Col. Jason P. Pavelschak is the Vice Commander, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. He is the second in command of the wing and is responsible for the formal training of all KC-135R/T, C-17A and KC-46A aircrews for active duty, Air National Guard and Air Reserve units, as well as multiple partner air forces from around the world. In addition, the wing simultaneously maintains a worldwide capability to support combatant commanders by deploying mission ready Airmen in support of combatant command requirements. Previously, Colonel Pavelschak was a Director of Operations, Operations Directorate, 618th Air Operations Center/Tanker Airlift Control Center, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
Colonel Pavelschak received his commission in 1997 after graduating from The Ohio State University. Shortly after entering the Air Force he attended Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Upon graduation he was selected to fly the KC-135 and stationed overseas at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England. During this assignment he was a Stan Eval Liaison Officer, Assistant Flight Commander and Squadron Executive Officer. Following this tour of duty he was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. While assigned to MacDill Air Force Base he served as a Squadron Executive Officer, Training Flight Instructor Pilot, and eventual Wing Executive Officer. After his time at MacDill Air Force Base, he was selected for the Air Mobility Command PHOENIX HAWK program at Scott Air Force Base. There he served as a Mobility Intern in the Tanker Airlift Control Center and on the Air Mobility Command Headquarters Staff. Upon completion of the PHOENIX HAWK program he was selected for the Air Mobility Command PHOENIX REACH program and cross-flowed to the C-17 weapon system. After initial C-17 training he was assigned to Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina. There he was a Flight Commander, Assistant Director of Operations, Deputy Director of Wing Staff, and Deputy Chief Commander’s Action Group. While at Charleston AFB, he was selected to attend Intermediate Developmental Education at the Pentagon as an Air Force Fellow, Strategic Policy Intern. During this period he spent six months on the Joint Staff in J36 and six months on the Air Staff in SAF/AQQ. Following his Strategic Policy Internship, he was assigned to Headquarters Air Force, Directorate of Operations, Command and Control, Operations Systems, Modeling and Simulation Directorate. There he served as Chief, Air Force Component Branch developing Headquarters Air Force policy, guidance, and Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution actions on behalf of the Air Force Director of Operations. Following his Headquarters Air Force assignment, he was assigned to the 22d Air Refueling Wing, McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas where he served as the Chief of Wing Safety and Commander, 350th Air Refueling Squadron. Following squadron command, he was assigned to Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois as the Chief, Air Mobility Command Flight Safety Division. During this assignment he deployed to HQUSAFCENT, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar as the Deputy Director of Safety. Following his deployment he was assigned to the 618 Air Operations Center/Tanker Airlift Control Center, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois where he served as a Senior Director of Operations.
He is a Command Pilot with over 3000 hours, including over 550 combat and combat support hours. He has flown the T-37B, T-1A, KC-135R, KC-135T, C-17A, and KC-46A aircraft.
