Facilities close for government shutdown

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --   Facilities on Altus AFB are closed or have limited availability until further notice due to the partial government shutdown Oct. 1.

Most of these closures are a result of civilian employees who have been furloughed.

The following facilities and will be closed until further notice:

-Base library
-Civilian personnel office
-Commissary

The following facilities will be available on a limited basis:

-The fitness center will be open starting Oct. 3 on weekdays only 6 - 9 a.m. and 3 - 7 p.m. No classes will be offered and the fitness center will be closed on the weekends.
-The education center will have limited service, and will not process tuition assistance applications or provide testing services.
-The youth center will close an hour earlier during open rec time, Monday - Friday 3 - 6 p.m.
-The postal service center will remain open, but will have limited or delayed service.
-The Airman & Family Readiness Center will have limited service Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
-The military personnel section will not offer passport or visa services.
-Charlie's Lounge will be open Tuesday - Friday, 5 - 8 p.m., and 6 p.m. - 2 a.m. on Saturdays.

The following activities have also been limited or cancelled because of the government shutdown:

-Cable and Internet have been terminated in all dormitories, but will still be available at Club Altus, Charlie's Officers Lounge, Galaxy Lanes Bowling Center and the Freedom Community Center.
-Recycling pick-up is cancelled until further notice on base.
