Members of the 97th Security Forces Squadron and the 97th Civil Engineer Squadron held a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Sept. 11, 2013 at the base fire department.

The ceremony consisted of the fire fighter's prayer, security forces prayer, a flag folding and the ringing of the final alarm. The audience reflected upon the tragedy that occurred twelve years ago and the nation's path to recovery.

"Those individuals gave their lives to help somebody who was in a deadly situation," said Paul Pitrat, 97th CES Fire Chief. "Today's service members train with that same state of mind; putting themselves in peril to save others."

The ceremony honored the 343 fallen firefighters and the 23 New York City police officers who lost their lives in the events on Sept. 11, 2001.
