Community Engagement Mission

The objective of community engagement is to increase public awareness and understanding of the Air Force and Altus Air Force Base. The base maintains an active program that organizes base tours, coordinates base participation in large community events and parades, administrates the Eagle Pass program, leads the Honorary Commanders program and handles all noise complaints.

Our goal is to foster positive relations with the surrounding communities and participation in community events by Air Force personnel is highly encouraged. The Community Engagement office can be reached at (580) 481-7700 or by email at 97amw.pa@us.af.mil

Base Tours

The 97th Air Mobility Wing offers organized group tours to educate people about the U.S. Air Force, Altus Air Force Base and it’s missions. Tours are only provided to organized groups such as civic organizations, schools, businesses, and reunion groups. Certain conditions and restrictions apply to all base tours. Tour groups must meet the following requirements:

  • Size: Tours are limited to a minimum of 10 participants and a maximum of 40.

  • Transportation: The Public Affairs Office arranges for transportation on base with a Public Affairs escort.

  • Dates: Tours are only offered on weekdays, not including federal holidays. Tours will not exceed six hours to include a lunch break, if requested.

  • Mobility: Tour participants should expect periods of standing and a moderate amount of walking.

  • Base Access: Individuals requesting base access must consent to a background check for security purposes. You MUST bring and present the same valid photo ID. 

To request a base tour, fill out a Tour Request Form and e-mail it to 97amw.pa@us.af.mil at least FOUR WEEKS prior to the event date. If your organization has any questions, feel free to contact us Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at (580) 481-7700.

 

Honorary Commander Program

Altus Air Force Base has an exciting program designed to foster support between the base and local communities. The Honorary Commanders Program provides a unique opportunity for members of the local area to shadow squadron, group and tenant unit commanders at Altus Air Force Base and learn about the mission. HOMETOWN NEWS RELEASE PROGRAM

The Hometown News Program is a chance to publicize your career achievements through your home town newspaper, radio or television station. The program is designed to showcase the worldwide accomplishments and activities of service members and present a positive image of the Air Force people through print and electronic news releases.The program isn't just for military members, it's also for government civilian employees.

If you're interested in a Hometown News Release, fill out the online DD2266 form. This submits your Hometown News Release directly to Defense Media Activity who will distribute the information to your home town.

Speaker Program

The Altus Air Force Base Speakers Bureau works to increase face-to-face contact with the community to help build and sustain public understanding and support for our service. Today's Airmen have a wealth of knowledge on myriad topics and can deliver presentations to audiences of all ages. To request an Airman to participate in your event, please contact the Community Engagement Office at 97amw.pa@us.af.mil

Aerial Support

Requests for off-base flyovers will be considered only for aviation-related events (air shows, airport anniversaries or dedications) or for patriotic observances held in conjunction with formal observances, open to the public, on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Prisoner Of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Recognition Day and Veterans Day when held within seven days of the holiday date. To request a flyover, please fill out the Request for Participation in Public Events form and email it to the Community Engagement office at 97amw.pa@us.af.mil

Honor Guard

The Altus AFB Honor Guard provides ceremonial services for military funeral honors and requests such as parades, retirement ceremonies, sporting and other events.
