7/1/2010 - ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla.  -- Altus AFB hosted the MC-12W site survey team from headquarters Air Combat Command June 22-24.
The purpose of the visit was to provide a thorough evaluation of the base infrastructure, in support of basing up to 37 MC-12W aircraft on the installation.

The team worked with 22 personnel from Altus Air Force Base, who proudly showcased the capabilities of the base and the local community.

After two days of detailed assessments, the team left Altus assured that the installation is fully capable of supporting this important mission. The team concluded that Altus remains a strong contender for MC-12W basing based on multiple factors, to include airspace, facilities, and proximity to joint training ranges.

The Altus team worked very closely with Army Lt. Col. Anthony Demasi, from the Joint and Combined Integration Directorate at Fort Sill, to present the synergy of utilizing Altus Air Force Base and the Army's Ft. Sill training complex and Falcon Range. The coordinated effort provided essential information to the Air Combat Command team on the support capabilities provided by the military bases in the Southwest Oklahoma region.

The Air Combat Command MC-12W basing team will present a written report to the 97th Air Mobility Wing Commander in the middle of July. The Air Force expects to make a preliminary decision on MC-12W basing by the end of August.

Further information will be released as it becomes available. Questions should be directed to the Altus AFB Public Affairs office, (580) 481-7700.
