Approximately 25 members of the 97th Air Mobility Wing delivered Valentine's Day cards made by children from local elementary schools thanking veterans from local neighborhoods for their service as part of the "Valentine's for Vets" program, Feb. 14, 2019.

"Valentine’s for Vets" is a program that Altus AFB hosts annually to honor local veterans. Service members talked with local veterans and gave cards filled with kind words from local students.

“It means a lot to me,” said one veteran. “I have a son in the Air Force so it feels great to talk to Airmen and see some smiling faces.”

The 97th AMW sent four teams of Airmen to five different locations in order to spread the valentines cheer to as many veterans as possible.

“Seeing these veterans brings a tear to my eye,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Marshalria Vaughans, 97th Communications Squadron commander. “I can’t describe it.”

The "Valentine's for Vets" program has existed at Altus AFB since 1998, meaning that this is the 21st time the Mighty 97th has coordinated with the local community to give thanks and visit veterans.
