Training mobility Airmen is the primary mission of the 97th Air Mobility Wing. It takes a concerted effort from every individual, organization and unit on base to support the roughly 2,000 students per year that train at Mobility’s Hometown.

To recognize the efforts of those that have gone above and beyond in support of the student training mission, the 97th Training Squadron created the “Order of the Eagle.”

“Every person in this community is connected in some way to our student mission,” said Lt. Col. Matthew Tarnowski, 97th Training Squadron Commander. “Every day, mountains are moved to keep the mobility training machine moving. The honorary eagles are those who stayed late, opened early, or took the time to help a student on their journey. It’s that above and beyond spirit that stands out for those presented the Order of the Eagle.”

Induction into the Order of the Eagle begins with a nomination process. Every six months, 97 TRS members, with input from the entire 97th Operations Group, nominate individuals and organizations and then vote on the top 10. Those 10 inductees have their names emblazoned on a Stanley Cup style trophy proudly displayed in the halls of the 97 TRS.

Mr. Chris Nicolls from the 97 AMW Judge Advocate Office and an inaugural Order of the Eagle inductee said, “I appreciate the TRS taking time to show their appreciation for the advice and guidance the JA team provides them.” Nicholls continued, “I’m humbled to be added to the TRS Order of the Eagle initial Alpha Class roster.”

Senior Airman Cody Cashdollar, another inaugural Order of the Eagle inductee from the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron commander support staff said his induction into the Alpha Class roster was evidence of simply doing his job well.

“It definitely feels good to be recognized...I just try to treat everyone else like I’d like to be treated.” Cashdollar continued, “As a personnelist I’m just happy to help everyone get what they need and deserve. Whether that’s an award or a ribbon they may not have known they were entitled to or help with their careers and promotions.”
