The Defense Commissary Agency announced that most military commissaries will close one day a week on Mondays for up to 11 days when furloughs take place. Closures are expected to begin July 8, 2013.

The furlough day for Altus AFB is scheduled to be on Tuesdays since the commissary is already routinely closed on Mondays.

"So we will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays," said Gayle McGrath, Altus AFB Commissary store director. "No additional changes to store operations hours are planned other than the furlough day."

"We know that any disruption in commissary operations will impact our patrons," said Joseph Jeu, DeCA director and CEO. "Also, we understand the tremendous burden this places on our employees and industry partners."

Due to sequestration, DeCA is mandated by the Department of Defense to furlough its civil service employees.

"We hope that our customers understand that their shopping patterns may have to change to accommodate the furlough day," Gayle said. "But we'll make it through together."
