Commanders from the 97th Air Mobility Wing conducted a Health and Welfare Inspection here, and found that the overall professional environment of Altus AFB is very good.

The inspections were tasked during the Nov. 28, 2012 Wing Commanders Call by the Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Mark A. Welsh III. The purpose of the inspection was to reinforce expectations for the workplace environment, correct deficiencies, and deter conditions that may be detrimental to good order and discipline.

Commanders looked for material in three broad categories: pornographic, offensive or inappropriate, and unprofessional. The areas inspected were all government workspaces and shared common areas such as briefing rooms, break rooms and computer drives.

While some inappropriate items were discovered, leadership at Altus AFB was pleased with their detailed look at the overall environment of the installation. The items found included inappropriate material such as t-shirts, magazines and signs. All items were removed and/or destroyed.

"Our inspection also focused on having a conversation as to the importance of having a professional work environment and making certain that each Airman is treated with dignity and respect," said Col. Anthony Krawietz, 97th AMW commander.

Krawietz said the feedback received from those conversations was very positive, and reflected a commitment by individuals throughout the wing to ensuring a professional environment exists. Krawietz also added that while these inspection results were positive, the base can't let its guard down.

"We must be continually vigilant to those acts or items which could undermine our professional workplace. An environment of dignity, trust, and respect is important to our culture of professionalism and it is the responsibility of every one of us to protect that environment," he said.
