Better Body. Better Life. aims to help Airmen enjoy healthy eating Published Sept. 24, 2012 By Senior Airman Kenneth W. Norman 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A new Air Force weight management program will be available at the Health and Wellness Center beginning Oct. 30, 2012, just in time to help avoid holiday weight gain. "The name of the program is Better Body. Better Life," said Tara Beth Johnson, 97th Medical Group nutrition program manager. "It is a nutrition workshop encompassing diet, behavior modification and physical activity." The program is designed to help individuals seeking to lose and maintain their weight and enjoy an overall healthy lifestyle. It includes general information about nutrition, physical activity and behavioral issues dealing with weight and lifestyle choices through facilitated classroom discussions and hands-on activities. "This is primarily aimed at service members who need to get their abdominal circumference down," Johnson said. "This program supports people on their journey to better health." There are five modules that are different colors and each module covers a different subject. The difference between this program and other weight management classes is it is designed to be more of a support group. "I like the facilitating. I don't think anyone wants to be lectured, so this really helps us learn from each other," Johnson said. Participants can enter any class at any time and don't have to wait until a new class starts. The classes are scheduled for every Tuesday starting at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30. For more information or to register for Better Body. Better Life., contact the Health and Wellness Center at 481-5013.
