Altus AFB Closed Feb. 9 Published Feb. 9, 2011 By 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Due to inclement and hazardous weather conditions, Altus Air Force Base was closed Feb. 9. Only mission essential personnel were required to report for duty. All other employees were excused without charged leave or loss of pay. Group commanders determined which employees are mission essential. Shift workers called their supervisors for guidance on whether to report for work later in the day. All flying, simulator and academic training was cancelled. The support facilities that were open included: Child Development Center, Youth Center, Dining Facility and Fitness Center. The base exchange and shoppette were open, with the BX closing at 7 p.m. and the shoppette closing at 11 p.m. The commissary was open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mission essential personnel were required to report for duty February 9th, as usual until 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10th, after which normal operations and reporting were in affect for Altus Air Force Base.
