97th Air Mobility Wing Airman dies downrange Published Nov. 12, 2010 By 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- An Airman currently deployed to Afghanistan but assigned to the 97th Air Mobility Wing was pronounced dead at approximately 11 a.m. after sustaining injuries while working at a forward operating base in Afghanistan. Emergency crews responded and the Airman was transported to the hospital at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, where the Airman was pronounced dead. "My heartfelt condolences go out to this Airman's family, as well as to everyone here at the Mighty 97th," said Col. Ty Thomas, 97th Air Mobility Wing commander. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our Airmen." The name of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin notifications are complete. The cause of death is under investigation and further details will follow as they become available.
