Senior Airman Nicholas Carver is the Mighty 97th's Airman of the Quarter

11/23/2010 - ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. - Senior Airman Nicholas Carver is the Airman of the quarter, July to Sept. 2010.

"I would like to credit this award to hard work. I have been willing to sacrifice my personal time and leisure to further pursue my career goals. Additionally, I credit my supervisor, Staff Sgt. Lakisha Mount, for grooming and mentoring me to be the best Airman I can be," Senior Airman Carver said.

As a Health Services Management Technician for the 97th Medical Operations Squadron, Airman Carver was a wing Preventive Health Assessment coordinator; scheduling 250 patients appointments and ordering 500 labs, assuring a 98 percent health compliance rate. Airman Carver excelled in the service treatment record program, retiring 44 records. His on-time rate was number-one overall in the Air Education Training and Command. Airman Carver designed the Preventive Health Assessment Right Start and First Term Airman Center Briefings, informing 100 Airmen while supporting wing individual medical readiness compliance. He managed four provider schedules totaling 3,000 appointments while sustaining 3,000 records, which assured 98 percent availability totaling $41,000 in care delivered. He also was the flight's safety monitor securing safety regulations and making a safe environment for 17 staff members. as well as more than 2,000 patients.

"This award will help strengthen my package for Officer Training School as I pursue my ultimate career goal to be commissioned as a combat rescue officer," Airman Carver said.

Airman Carver seeks to improve himself along with his base. During the quarter, he completed 38 hours as a Unit Control Center member while completing four computer-based trainings. He completed 24 hours of scuba dive training, striving toward the fire department recovery diver certificate. He completed his Community College of the Air Force degree, earning nine semester hours in pursuit of a Bachelor in Business, and Officer Training School.

Airman Carver also devoted 57 hours to the Air Force Sergeants Association by attending meetings and conferences. He coordinated Airman Against Drunk Driving volunteers and was elected Airman Trustee of AADD. He is a certified Self Aide Buddy Care and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation instructor and conducted three courses providing wing members with life saving training. He also was vital in the dorm beautification project, coordinating ten AFSA volunteers, food and supplies to enhance the quality of life for 95 Airmen.

"I would recommend to others to work hard and go the extra mile in everything they do," Airman Carter said. "Furthermore, sacrifice is inevitable.

Airman Carver graduated from West Sioux High School in Iowa, and still has family in the area. He holds an associate degree in health care management from the Community College of the Air Force and an associate degree in business administration from Western Oklahoma State College.

"This is an outstanding honor. I am so thankful for everything that Altus Air Force Base has done for me. This is a testament to making the best out of any assignment. You really can further your career no matter where you are stationed in the military," he said.
