Congratulations go out to Senior Airman Jean Cenat, document control specialist, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron, who earned 450 points to become Altus Air Force Base's Personal Body Challenge Champion.

The challenge, an innovative first for Altus AFB's Fitness Center and Health and Wellness Center, focused on setting and achieving fitness goals.

"In May the Health and Wellness Center launched the Personal Body Challenge with the purpose being to help people move toward optimal health by setting and achieving short-term lifestyle goals. To kick off the three-month summer challenge, participants received BMI, fitness, nutritional, and life skills assessments and set realistic goals to strive for. To encourage participation in the activities and classes made available to assist in reaching their goals, points could be earned for attendance. The overall champion would be chosen by who achieved the most points and personal goals met," said Gayle Kenyon, health educator at the Health and Wellness Center on Altus AFB.

The Personal Body Challenge encouraged participation in the Fitness Center's various exercise programs, as well as HAWC classes such as stress management, sensible weigh, Nutrition 101, back basics, and tobacco cessation.

"The classes offered at the Fitness Center help me with my challenge by giving me different option. The core class was really great, it is offered during lunch which didn't affect my job time," said Airman Cenat.

Additionally, the HAWC sent weekly life skills challenges to each participant by e-mail. These challenges included Move More with Physical Activity, Keep Balance in Your Life with Temperance, Drink Plenty of Water, Practice Good Mental Health with a Positive Outlook, Get Regular Fresh Air and Sunshine, Relieve Stress with Spiritual Strength, Increase Fruits and Veggies in Your Diet, Maintain Healthy Interpersonal Relationships, and Get Eight Hours of Sleep Each Night.

Twenty-two people registered to participate in the Personal Body Challenge. Most participants showed great progress in moving toward their goals at the halfway progress check, but in the end it was Airman Cenat who triumphed, personally and professionally.

"I feel great about my success, but I am more motivated to set another challenge for myself. I have learned many things that I need to do to get my body in better shape, and to live a more healthy lifestyle. For those who would like to challenge themselves in the same way, it's very easy. Set a realistic goal for yourself and work it. It takes time, but don't give up because at the end you will be proud and excited about your success, and be more motivated to set more challenges for yourself," said Airman Cenat.

"We're really proud of Airman Cenat. He's a hard worker and dedicated. It was not a surprise that he achieved this goal. He goes above and beyond," said Staff Sgt. Takeyla Brown,  Airman Cenat's supervisor and NCO in charge of document control, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
