When asked what Airman 1st Class Barlow credits his award to, he said, "All the glory goes to God, and all the pride goes to my parents. I have the most supportive leadership I could ask for, and the people in my shop are nothing less than inspiration and motivation." Airman 1st Class Barlow's primary duty title is Bioenvironmental Engineering Apprentice. Barlow was recognized as "Top Medic" for the month of January. He was leadership's first choice to represent the group during the 19th Air Force Commander visit. Barlow evaluated 67 vent systems in 15 shops, which guaranteed over 400 thousand dollars in controls protecting the health of 153 personnel. Barlow also collected 18 drinking samples. He monitored them for pH, bacteria, and chlorine levels. There were no Environmental Protection Agency violations, contributing to the health for 3,483 personnel. Barlow also aced five Career Development Course sets in three months of upgrade training, and averaged 92 percent or higher on his End of Course tests. He volunteered 18 hours to Airman Against Drunk Driving, saving 24 lives. He has also helped out in the community by volunteering another 27 hours to Habitat for Humanity, as well as nursing homes and animal shelters. "When I got here to Altus I was given two options; sit in my room twiddling my thumbs, or take the opportunity to make a difference and get active in both the wing and the community. So I recommend that others make the right choice." said Barlow. Barlow is from Huntsville, Ala. His sister is U.S. Army Specialist Jennifer Barlow, stationed at Fort McPherson in Atlanta. Airman 1st Class Barlow, along with the other winners, are set to compete in the 97th Air Mobility Wing 2010 Annual Awards.
