TSgt Michael Long, Altus AFB Award Winner!

Tech. Sgt. Michael Long is the 2009 Air Education and Training Command Material Management Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

The award recognizes individuals who excell in providing outstanding logistics readiness support for the command.

Tech. Sgt. Long is the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Flight Service Center in the Logistics Readiness Squadron. He received "outstanding performer" during the 2009 Unit Compliance Inspection exercise. He re-vamped Individual Protection Equipment deployment briefings and developed a script for mobility and weapons issues, reducing the issue time by 50 percent. He also maintained Air Force Central Command's largest Expeditionary Theater Distribution Center, equipping and aiding 16,000 Airmen on 26 forward operating bases.

"It feels good to know that my shop is hard working and will be recognized for their hard work. My future goal is to be Chief so I can make a difference with my airman," said TSgt Long.

In his regular duties, he is the NCOIC of Individual Protective Equipment. Some of his accomplishments include leading a six man team inspecting 1000 gas masks, identifing and turning in 49 unserviceable masks.  They now are 100 percent mission ready .He re-warehoused 1.1 million mobility assets, decreasing annual inventory time from one week to one day. He also led the pre-building of 500 "A-bags", reducing customer wait time by 60 percent.

Tech. Sgt. Long graduated from Daingerfield High School in Texas. He joined the Air Force in 1997. He is married to Jung and together they have two boys Tyler, 9 years old, and Tanner, 5 years old.
