Altus AFB to show 'Avatar' at Wings of Freedom Park Published April 27, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Jennifer Seidl 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Airmen Committed to Excellence council will host a movie night at the Wings of Freedom Park April 30 at 8:30 p.m. - a first-time event for Altus AFB. Open to all on base, this al-fresco showing of "Avatar" (directed by James Cameron, three Academy Awards) came about as a response to our Airmen's interests. "In one of the meetings we were talking about something family friendly to do and a drive in movie came up and it led to becoming the Movie in the Park," said Airman 1st Class Angeli Yerkey, president of A.C.E., a professional organization comprising E-1s through E-5s. "A.C.E. is here for all Airmen with anything they need," she said "This council is for their voices to be heard. We are here to support any events they would like to do and help them plan and set it up." In order to set up the Movie in the Park event, A.C.E. needed a little assistance; Outdoor Recreation contributed the screen and projector, lights for the food area were provided by A-TEAM's Ray Brzozowski, and the grill and food came from the Chief's Group. Airman Yerkey said that in addition to an award-winning movie, those who attend can relax with a burger, chips and a drink. Proceeds will benefit future Airman activities and Enlisted Appreciation Day. Airman Yerkey wants everyone on base to know that A.C.E. is there to work for our single airman. "We hope for more airmen to participate in future A.C.E. events and basically everyone to have something to do in Altus and have fun," she said.
