Sexual Assault Awareness Month Activities

The activities planned for Sexual Assault Awareness Month are many and should appeal to everyone. The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Office has collaborated with other organizations installation wide to educate and bring awareness to Altus Air Force Base and community. 

The schedule includes:

- A Proclamation signing declaring April Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

- Good Touch/Bad Touch puppet shows hosted by ACMI house, the local domestic violence and sexual assault shelter. This is for preschoolers and elementary aged children. This show teaches and entertains on different types of touch and which ones are considered good, which ones are considered bad, and which ones are considered OK.

- A Wellness Expos hosted by the HAWC including interactive booths, games, giveaways and special animal characters.

- Nationally known speakers such as Bernie McGrenaghan who will provide four Happy Hour presentations over two days. This event is hosted by many safety and health and wellness, education and prevention organizations on the installation. It will also include an "After Happy Hour" event where individuals will have the chance to meet Bernie McGrenaghan.

- An additional speaker from Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), Julie Kinder in agent Oklahoma who will provide information on a result of our electronic age- Internet Safety and Sexting. This information will be important for parents and caretakers of teens and adolescents.

- Physical activities like a self defense class, a 5k run sponsored by the Fitness Center with promotional items distributed by the SAPR office at the conclusion of the run, and golf tournament sponsored by ATA with proceeds being donated to ACMI House, the local domestic violence and sexual assault shelter.
