ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Altus Air Force Base will host trick-or-treating on base housing between the hours of 6 and 8 pm on October 31st and the 97th Security Forces Squadron wants to be sure your kids stay safe this season.

Here are some questions to ask when planning your trick or treating trip this year:

  · What routes will your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them?
  · Who is chaperoning your children if you aren't?
  · What other activities are your children attending, who else will be attending and are there chaperones?
  · Do you have a time set for your children to be home?

Another thing to consider is children's costume. It should be safety orientated, brightly colored, and reflective if possible. Also, try to be sure they are made from fire retardant material and not too loose, creating a tripping hazard.

The Pumpkin Patrol will be patrolling streets in the neighborhoods on Halloween night. Security Forces encourage children to walk on sidewalks and watch for traffic when crossing the street, only trick-or-treat at well-lit homes and remain on the porch within street view, carrying a working flashlight and have parents examine all candy before eating.

They also encourage residents to report any suspicious or criminal activity during this time. For more information, call 481-5661.
