The 2009 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) kicked off October 12, and is well under way at Altus Air Force base. The CFC allows members of the military and government employees to donate money to worthy causes and help those less fortunate than themselves. The base's campaign goal is 75,000 dollars this year.

"And after just one week, we've met 24 percent of that goal," said 54 ARS Capt. Brian Temple, Wing POC and Jackson County CFC chairman. "We want to make 100% contact - making sure everyone has a chance to learn about the CFC and donate if they want to."

More than 4000 charities participate in this world-wide event, with 22 local organizations taking part. This year's slogan is "I Can...Now More Than Ever!" Capt. Temple said the CFC gives airmen and other federal employees the opportunity to do just that.

"It's the one time a year we get to let these charities onto the base and show just how much they need our help," Captain Temple said.

And giving is easier than ever, with federal employees able to donate to the charity of their choice with a direct contribution or even a payroll deduction.

The campaign comes to a close on November 20.
