Altus firefighter winner of GEICO military service award Published Oct. 2, 2007 97th AMW Public Affairs ALTUS AFB -- Master Sgt. Phillip R. Fourroux, 97th Civil Engineering Squadron, is an Air Education and Training Command winner of the 2007 Government Employees Insurance Company Military Service Award in the Fire Safety and Fire Prevention category. Sergeant Fourroux performed acceptance testing on a $3 million fire suppression system eliminating the wing's number one fire safety deficiency. Additionally, he designed an alternate firefighter shift schedule saving 5,000 overtime hours and $133,000 in overtime expenses. Furthermore, he led the Emergency Services dispatch center transition to civilian positions, providing vital continuity and ultimately saving the Air Force $94,000 annually. Recently deploying to Iraq for a one-year tour, Sergeant Fourroux is working as a fire service instructor, teaching basic fire fighting techniques to his Iraqi counterpoarts.
