New commander takes reins of 97th AMW

Col. David W. Allvin, 97th Air Mobility Wing commander, challenged the men and women
of Altus Air Force Base during the 97th AMW change of command ceremony
Aug. 3. Colonel Allvin, who comes to Altus after serving as the 12th Flying Training Wing vice commander, asked Airmen to continue to persevere as they conquer challenges the Air Force faces. He asked Airmen here to continue meeting those challenges "however elusive the solutions may be." The new wing commander elaborated on how important the 97th AMW's mission is and its impact on the success of defending the U.S. flag. As Colonel Allvin prepared to usher in a new era here under his leadership, Colonel Carlton D. Everhart, former 97th AMW wing commander expressed his gratitude to everyone for their support and hard work during his tenure here. Maj. Gen. Irving L. Halter Jr. 19th Air Force commander, presented Colonel Everhart with the Legion of Merit, first oak leaf cluster, for his service as vice commander and commander of the 97th AMW, from July 14, 2005, to Aug. 3, 2007.
