97th LRS wins Gerrity award two year straight

ALTUS AFB, Okla. --  For the second year in a row, the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron was recently awarded Air Education and Training Command's Thomas P. Gerrity Logistics award.
They received the award for their outstanding work during 2005.
 
The squadron will now compete for the Gerrity award at the Air Force level. 

The Gerrity award recognizes the 97th LRS's exceptional contributions in the field of logistics.
 
"The 97th LRS warriors have done some extraordinary task throughout the last year supporting the Mighty 97th AMW and the Global War on Terrorism," said Chief Master Sgt. Demetris Threatt, 97th LRS chief enlisted manager. 

In 2005 the 97th LRS supported Altus Air Force Base's training syllabus by rigging, loading and recovering more than 840 airdrop loads. They did this while having 223 Airmen deployed. 

The squadron also constructed a dual row air drop system which maximized the C-17 load capacity. 

Forty-seven members from the 97th LRS deployed with the 97th Air Expeditionary Group to provide logistical support after Hurricane Katrina. They deployed 181 short-tons of life saving equipment and supplies to the devastated area. 

The 97th LRS also executed 45 airlift sorties delivering 61,000 pounds of cargo and 422 personnel for humanitarian relief following Hurricane Katrina. 

The squadron managed AETC's largest fuels account. They issued 63 million gallons of JP-8 and other fuels and off-loaded an average of 31 commercial tank trucks daily.
"We have a great team and our personnel continue to provide great support to our customers," said Chief Threatt.
