ALTUS AFB, Okla. -- Colonel Keith Moncrief, 97th Mission Support Group commander, presented Wayne Riddick the 2005 Volunteer Excellence Award in a ceremony Monday in the 97th MSG conference room.
Mr. Riddick saluted the colonel as he received the same award Paula Riddick, his wife, had earned at Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D.
Mr. Riddick, fuel systems technician at the 97th Maintenance Division, began his volunteer service with Oklahoma State Univer-sity's Extension Office in 2000. He took a fledging 4-H program from five participants to 60. The Riddicks also chaperone at a summer camp where their son Ryan, 16, serves as a counselor.
Herbert Goss, the award winner's supervisor, was at the ceremony and Mitzi Pate, OSU, said "Wayne models important life skills; he demonstrates that good citizenship is a way of life."
"When you see the joy and self-esteem in their faces, you're hooked (on volunteering) for life," said Mr. Riddick. "Come out and try it."
