Get to know the Airman of the Month for Sept., Senior Airman Garrett Royce, 58th Airlift Squadron instructor loadmaster from Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

Where are you from?

I am from Illiopolis, Illinois.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I knew from the age of 14 that I wanted to join the military. It was my older brother, who was in the Marine Corps, that inspired me to join.

What is your job, and what is your favorite thing about it?

My job in the Air Force is a C-17 Loadmaster. What I’ve enjoyed most from my career has been the numerous traveling opportunities around the world and the unique culture that exists within the aircrew community.

How do you stay motivated to maintain a high level of performance?

While my career field can often be seen as competitive, it’s those accomplishments from others which have inspired me to work harder and chase goals of my own as a loadmaster. The opportunities given to me here at Altus AFB have allowed me to expand my own abilities as an instructor and leader within the Air Force.
