ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Get to know the Airman of the Month for February, Senior Airman Tyler J. Hutton 97th Healthcare Operations Squadron Medical Readiness Technician from Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma.
How do you stay ahead of the curve and ensure you're always prepared to excel, regardless of the challenges that may arise?
I am dedicated to giving 110% every time I wear this uniform. Each day is an opportunity for me to grow; whether it’s learning from my peers, gaining knowledge from my leaders, or reflecting to improve upon my own mistakes.
Can you share a recent experience where you were challenged to perform at your absolute best? What did you learn about yourself through that experience?
During the first Sustainment Operations for Air Force Medical Responders Aircraft Mishap Exercise, I was pushed to perform at my best. I was entrusted with a crucial role, serving as the forward-deployed medical control center personnel. This position required me to communicate and take decisive action while under pressure. I learned that I should be more confident because I have found strengths in skills that I believed were weaknesses for me.
What piece of advice would you give to a fellow Airman who is striving to embody the same level of excellence and dedication that earned you this recognition?
My advice would be to stay humble. Always seek to learn whether it’s gaining a deeper understanding of your role or learning from your peers. Be open to feedback even when it is critical. Own your mistakes and take responsibility when things don’t go as planned.
What does holding yourself and your peers accountable to the highest standards look like in your daily work, and how does it contribute to overall mission readiness?
As the unit deployment manager for the 97th Medical Group, I ensure my team's mission readiness by thoroughly tracking all their training requirements. I lead by example, holding myself to the highest standards by maintaining 100% completion of my own readiness training. Only then do I hold my peers accountable for meeting theirs.
What specific steps do you take in your role to ensure you and your team are always prepared to execute the mission, even on short notice?
The steps that I take are maintaining consistent communication with my team, staying productive, not allowing myself to be lazy, and embracing adaptability to handle unforeseen challenges.
