School is back in session, which means kids traveling to and from school every morning and afternoon.

With the start of the school year come dangers that parents, children, and other pedestrians should be aware of.

Here are five tips to keep kids safe:

#1 - Make sure you follow the speed limit, stop for pedestrians and not to go around stopped school buses with flashing red lights.

#2 - Stay in contact with your children. Make sure you know what paths your child takes to and from school and what time they get home.

#3 - Always be aware when driving. Kids don't always look both ways before crossing the street and seeing them before they cross is harder.

#4 - Makes sure you stay informed with the school and local law enforcement to be aware of any trending dangers or risks.

#5 - Talk to your children about ways to keep them and their friends safe.

Be sure to talk to your kids about looking both ways before crossing the street, the dangers of talking to strangers and stray animals.

Drivers should be cautious in school areas from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
