Three "Street Smart" briefings, hosted by the wing safety office, will be held in the base theater at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., and 11 a.m. June 11, 2014. These briefings address the dangers of distracted driving.

Volunteer emergency responders will give these briefings to Airmen. The volunteers travel around the country to educate people on risky and fatal decisions, such as texting while driving or driving after having drinks.

The briefings are open for all base personnel and family members. High school students are also invited; however, due to the nature of the demonstrations, children younger than a high school age are not recommended to attend.

"It gives people a moment to step back and put a little more thought into their choices," said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Melissa Cadle, 97th Air Mobility Wing NCO in charge of ground safety. "We want them to think ahead of time and make the plan before going out to drink."

These briefings are a part of the Critical Days of Summer Campaign, emphasizing the importance of making safe decisions while enjoying the warm weather.

The information from the briefings is beneficial to everyone, especially those who are between the ages of 18-26 years old.
