Communications Squadron ensures network security Published Feb. 10, 2014 By Senior Airman Franklin R. Ramos 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 97th Air Mobility Wing completed its first ever Phase Three Command Cyber Readiness Inspection Jan. 31 2014, with and overall grades of "Acceptable on a normal network and Excellent on a secured network". The 97th Communications Squadron underwent a Phase Three CCRI which is a formal inspection conducted under the direction of U.S. Cyber Command's Enhanced Inspection Program. "As with any inspection, you worry that you may have missed a step or a document so there was a small bit of anxiousness amongst those being inspected," said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Jamie Garcia, 97th Communications Squadron network control center section chief. "We received two grades that cover our overall practices and procedures and without getting too technical one grade was an Excellent and the other was an Acceptable." By passing this CCRI the Department of Defense and the Defense Information Systems Agency know that Altus AFB is maintaining a secure posture in defending its network. "There are no accolades for maintaining network security other than knowing that we are doing our part in keeping the enemy out of our information systems," said Garcia. "By maintaining this bearing, we are always able to respond to a network incident while never failing the mission." Altus AFB is expecting to undergo a new Phase Three CCRI in three years. "I would like to thank all the military and civilian Airmen who help Altus AFB ensure network security every day. Without the actions of every work center, every client systems administrator, every client systems technician, every Systems Administrator and every person that pulled their common access card out when they left their keyboard, the results would have definitely been different," said Garcia.
