Altus AFB to conduct active shooter exercise

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – The 97th Air Mobility Wing will be conducting an active shooter exercise Dec. 9, 2015.

All base gates will be closed for approximately one hour between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. All personnel with base access are encouraged to avoid entry or exit during this time. Base services will be limited during these hours due to the complex nature of this type of exercise. Individuals on base may also hear exercise alerts over the giant voice system and alert radios.

Exercises of this nature are critical for evaluating Department of Defense response actions to an active shooter incident and to prepare for this in the most realistic manner. Base personnel have been and will continue to be intently focused on improving response plans for the safety of everyone on the installation.

The exercise will also integrate off-base agencies to better prepare the community, including the Altus Fire/Rescue Department, Altus Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jackson County Memorial Hospital and EMS.
