The 97th Civil Engineer Squadron environmental team hosted its second annual fishing derby at the golf course fishing pond at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, April 29, 2022.

The competition allowed Airmen to celebrate Earth Day with family and friends while providing an educational fishing experience for beginners. Local game wardens, fishery staff, and the Jackson County chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation provided event assistance.

“It's always a blast seeing first timer’s experience the joy of catching a fish,” said Kelly Niland, 97th CES natural resources program manager. “Our hope is that experiences like this will foster a lifelong interest in the outdoors and support for environmental conservation.”
