College hoops mean slamming commissary savings

Commissaries worldwide are gearing up for the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament with contests and sales promotions that bring extra value to grocery shopping.

"It's college hoops tourney time, and we're here to offer everything you need for your college basketball viewing parties," said Joyce Chandler, Defense Commissary Agency's acting sales director. "We have the best prices in fresh produce, dairy and meats as well as the classic party food like chips, dips and other snacks."

Throughout March, DeCA's industry partners - vendors, suppliers and brokers - are collaborating with commissaries to offer discounts beyond everyday savings. Overseas stores may have substitute events for certain promotional programs. Customers are asked to check their local commissary for details on dates and times for the following promotions:

· Unilever will award more than $25,000 in prizes where commissary shoppers could win one of 10 52", high-definition TVs. Look for displays in the men's grooming section. This promotion will last from March 7 through April 10.

· General Mills is offering high-value coupons located near Old El Paso items and their salty snacks from March 7 to April 10.

·"Slam Dunk Savings Event." ConAgra Foods is offering shoppers in-store tear pads with coupons and recipes March 21 to April 10. Shoppers can get more coupons at, www.conagracommissarydeal.com. ConAgra Foods also offers shoppers a 75 Cent Sale for the entire month of March. Look for in-store banners and shelf signage in front of all participating items throughout the commissary.

·"Pop-a-Shot." Sunkist Soda and Mott's participating brands are hosting this event at all commissaries worldwide March 21 to April 10. All commissary shoppers can enter to win a Sunkist electronic "Pop-a-Shot" basketball game valued at $200. Look for sales displays and entry forms at your local commissaries.
