Altus Road, F Street scheduled for construction Published Nov. 23, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Kenneth W. Norman 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Two major streets on base are scheduled to be resurfaced starting Nov. 28. Milling and overlaying will begin on Altus Road and once it is completed, construction will begin on F Street. The parking lot at building 288 will also be resurfaced at the same time. "The full project in its various phases will take close to two months," said Jeff Kindschuh, 97th Civil Engineer Squadron chief of project management. "The mill and overlay will take only a couple days for each section of road." Between the removal of the old surface and the adding of new asphalt, effected areas may be temporarily open for traffic. Patrons of the Child Development Center will be affected for a short time during this project. "When the section of road in front of the CDC is under construction, patrons will have to park in the medical parking lot while dropping off and picking up children," Kindschuh said. Once the milling and overlaying of both Altus Road and F Street are completed, the intersection of Fir Drive and First Street and the intersection of Burr Drive and Altus Road are scheduled to be closed for concrete construction for about two months starting Dec. 27. "These projects are going to fix roads that have deteriorated asphalt, which are no longer cost effective to try to maintain," Kindschuh said. "It will enhance the condition of the road for better drivability and safety for our base population."
