The 97th Services Squadron Fitness and Sports Center recently finished installation and decoration of a new climbing room designed to focus on honing upper body strength.

The room features a tread wall, which is a speed and incline adjustable, rotating wall. Also, the fitness center will soon install a peg board, climbing rope and chin-up bar. Climbing gear and equipment are not need to use the tread wall.

"Our hope is to provide the men and women of Altus AFB another alternative for physical training workouts," said Jeremy Stevens, 97 SVS Fitness and Sports Center director.

Mr. Stevens said there is a certification process participants must undergo before using the tread wall.

"It should only take about 15 minutes," he said. "Once people are trained to use it, they can use it whenever they like. They just have to let us know they are going to be in there before they use it."

"The tread wall has already generated a good amount of interest," Mr. Stevens said. Even though the climbing room doesn't require people to sign up in order to use it, he recommends calling ahead to ensure availability.
