ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Get to know January’s Airman of the Month, Staff Sgt. Kylie Strawser, 54th Air Refueling Squadron boom operator instructor.
Q: Where are you from?
A: Manassas, Virginia.
Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your job?
A: I teach new boom operators about systems and processes on the KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft and how to conduct aerial refueling. I also track student training across the Air Education and Training Command syllabi and provide additional assistance to students who are struggling through the Commander’s Awareness Program. I am also the primary building manager and unit suicide prevention implementer. I track military suicide and mental health trends and provide annual training and support to squadron members. As the building manager, I coordinate with the Civil Engineer Squadron to ensure the building is operable and maintained while completing minor maintenance tasks and inspections.
Q: How does your job contribute to the mission?
A: I train the future U.S. Air Force boom operator corps. At the schoolhouse, we prepare our Airmen for an operational environment.
Q: What do you do for fun in your off time?
A: My hobbies include painting and working with animals.
