Three Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award projects are open for use as of Aug. 12, 2014.

At this time, the Freedom Community Center and Fitness Center Kid Zones along with the Base Archery Range are complete and are available to base members and families. The kid zones offer base members a place for children to play while parents utilize the Fitness Center or FCC.

The Base Archery Range, located alongside the South gate, is open to all personnel with base access; however, bow and arrow rentals are not yet available. Until further notice, members may use the Archery Range, while using their own equipment and practicing all safety precautions. Bows and arrows are on order and will be available for rent within the next few weeks.

After Altus AFB was named this year's Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award winner March 6, 2014, the base voted to decide what the $700,000 in prize money should be spent on. Once all the votes were in, the final projects that were granted funding included:

- Freedom Community Center Kid Zone
- Fitness Center Kid Zone
- Archery Range
- Base Dog Park
- Chapel renovation
- Base-wide Wi-Fi
- Functional Fitness area and equipment for cross training
- Splash Pad
- Mini Golf

The remaining six projects have started and currently do not have set dates of completion, but are estimated to be completed before January 2015.

More information will be released as individual projects are completed.
