Altus Air Force Base and Fort Sill Offices of the Inspector Generals gathered at the Falcon Range on Fort Sill June 11, 2014 to conduct joint IG professional development training.

The training allowed the two offices a chance to share processes, techniques and personal experiences to help enhance efficiency and skillsets.

"This training will be beneficial to everyone involved, regardless of service branch," said U.S. Army Capt. Kevin Rice, Fort Sill IG chief of inspections. "Sometimes, even just meeting new folks and figuring out how they do business, you can sometimes find ways that their techniques translate to what we do."

The two offices may have similar missions, but they have many differences in how they get the mission done.

"There are many differences in the way we resolve complaints and conduct inspections," said Boone Nicolls, 97th Air Mobility Wing IG director. "The Fort Sill IG team has a diverse staff that serves more than 10,000 personnel."

During the training session, the offices talked about unique experiences and shared lessons learned to help improve each office's in-place processes.

"The training broadened our perspective on how to interview and inspect effectively," said Nicolls.

Following the training, the inspectors were given a tour of the facilities and watched aerial training missions performed at Falcon Range.

"We are unique in the fact that we do a large amount of joint training with the Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy and some allied militaries," said Rick DeMars, project manager at Falcon Range. "We were happy to give the offices a chance to get together for some joint training and at the same time give them a look at something they may have never seen before."
