Innovative Airman of the Week
ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Stacy Burgess, 97th Comptroller Squadron overseas contingencies operations analyst, was named Innovative Airman of the Week, May 27. For fiscal year 2012, Altus AFB spent a total of $279,110.86 prior to Burgess’ idea proposed on March 28. Burgess’ idea is that many mandatory deployment items can be maintained by the members themselves and returned to the unit deployment manager. The returned items can then be reissued to other deploying members. The cost for required items prior to this policy was $2,892.64 per member; by reissuing many of the required items from returned inventory, the cost for new purchases was significantly decreased to $1,498.67 per member. This is an actual savings of $32,015.28. On average, Altus AFB deploys 188-236 individuals per year. This new policy has the potential to save the base and the Air Force approximately $50,000 to $100,000 a year. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Dillon Davis/Released)
