ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla.—“The transport aircraft on display in the Wings of Freedom park is a C-141B. Aircraft of this type were assigned to Altus AFB from 1968 to 2001, first with the 443rd Military Airlift Wing and later with the 97th Air Mobility Wing. Since its arrival, members of the 57th Airlift Squadron flew operational and training missions all over the globe. The unit also flew the C-141 on many missions in support of humanitarian relief efforts after hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters. The aircraft is painted to reflect the last few years of service at Altus AFB assigned to the 97th Air Mobility Wing”, said Richard Guinan, 97th AMW Historian.
