Honoring the ultimate sacrifice

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Staff Sgt. Shonna Calisi, 54th Air Refueling Squadron, (L), and Master Sgt. Ernest Burns, 55th ARS boom operator instructors presented Gen. Stephen R. Lorenz, Air Education and training commander a certificate and engraved brick in his honor to be placed at the Altus AFB Boom Operators Memorial Oct. 7. General Lorenz was a prior KC-135 pilot. The Altus Boom Operators Association felt it was fitting to dedicate an engraved brick for his continued support of the tanker and boom operators. The memorial was dedicated in 2005 to honor 117 Boom Operators who gave the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duties aboard aircraft. (U.S. Air Force photo/Aiman 1st Class Cherice I.
