Altus Airmen support humanitarian assistance mission to Haiti

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Members of the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron air transportation flight load pallets of humanitarian cargo onto a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft bound for Port-au-Prince, Haiti Dec. 18, 2013. The food was shipped in support of the Denton Amendment, a program that provides relief to Haitian citizens by making the transportation of humanitarian aid possible. The Denton Amendment is a commodity transportation program that is authorized under Title 10 U.S.C. Section 402, which provides the authority for the Department of Defense to use any extra space on U.S. military cargo aircraft to transport humanitarian assistance materials donated by non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and private voluntary organizations for humanitarian relief.
