Firefighter trench rescue training

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Grant Harper, 97th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, peers into a trench during trench rescue training Oct. 24, 2013. Firefighters use plywood and boards to construct walls to shore-up collapsing trenches. Walls are usually made on the spot and inserted into a trench to keep the dirt in place. Trench rescue training is vital for situations that have the potential to become a life and death struggle in an event of collapsed buildings or destroyed structures.
