U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Tim Rowland, 97th Training Squadron military training leader, launched a renovation project on the dorms that are more than three decades old. Working with 97th Civil Engineer Squadron self-help section and non-prior service Airmen, they repainted 80 rooms and furnished the rooms with 75 new mattresses, saving more than $16,000 in private contractor costs. Also, when three administrative positions were taken away from the 97th TRS, Rowland pioneered the idea to rotate non-prior service Airmen awaiting training to fill these jobs, saving thousands of critical manpower hours and ensuring no reduced mission capability at zero cost to the Air Force.
