Innovative Airman

08/12/13 ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 97th Operations Support Squadron tactics shop was named Innovative Airmen of the week Aug. 12. Their efforts toward taking over the drop zone control officer program have yielded significant savings for the wing. By adding one person to the tactics shop, they were able to take over the program, reducing the total number of members to six and eliminating the need for the lengthy upgrade process for each individual. This method saved approximately 104 scheduling hours, 204 training days, 2,300 office hours and $70,000 dollars per year. In addition, limiting drop zone control officer duties to highly qualified joint airdrop inspectors allowed an increase in continuity within the program and improved malfunction reporting and aerial delivery review panel process.
