75th Anniversary

On 4 January 1943, Altus Army Airfield for Advanced Flying Training began operations. In the next 2 ½ years over 5,000 cadets would earn their wings and be commissioned officers in the Army Air Forces. This photo is of a yearbook issued to those assigned to the base. A separate yearbook would be given to the students of each class after graduation. The books contained a message from the commander and photos of the base and students as they progressed through their different phases of instruction.
