From 1969 to 2007, C-5 Galaxy aircraft graced the parking ramp of Altus AFB. This photo shows a familiar sight to anyone driving on âFâ Avenue during those years. With the arrival of the first C-5 on 17 December 1969, the 56th Airlift Squadron became the first operational C-5 unit in the United States Air Force. Over the years the men and women of the base and squadron would support operational and humanitarian missions around the globe.
