The legal office is gearing up for another fast approaching tax season. In order to continue to provide top-notch tax service to the Altus military community, the legal office needs dedicated volunteers to help.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistants make it possible to have a successful program each year. VITAs are the heart and soul of the base tax service and perform a wide range of tasks, such as preparing tax returns for electronic filing.

Class dates are currently set for Jan. 10-12, 2011. The base legal office will provide comprehensive tax training, including a good working knowledge of TAXWISE, the (web-based) income tax program.

It is important that individuals wanting to volunteer seek the permission of their unit leadership.

The legal office requests the following information of each volunteer: Name, rank, organization, office symbol, duty phone, and any prior tax experience.

Further information about Altus AFB's tax program will be provided via briefings, e-mail messages, and base publications.

Thanks for your past and present support of the Altus AFB tax program. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact the legal office, 481-7294.
