The base Fitness Center offers 5K runs every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. and at least one special event run every month as well as other fitness oriented events to help keep base personnel in shape.

"My goal as the fitness center manager is to provide our base populous various options to get in shape and stay in shape," said Jeremy Stevens, 97th Force Support Squadron fitness center manager. "We offer numerous events throughout the year in hopes of trying to reach everyone's interests and needs. It just so happens that we have an outstanding running program which has improved many military members' fitness assessment scores."

Since there has been such a huge interest in running at Altus AFB, the fitness center developed "The Road Runners Club" which presently has about 30 members.

"This club is a way to help people meet and develop relationships with fellow runners that have the same interest, also it has developed camaraderie amongst the members," Stevens said. "The wingman mentality amongst these runners is fantastic, they never leave anyone behind and will normally go back and run alongside them all the way through the finish line."

The Fitness Center staff is always willing to help individuals develop workout routines and point them in the right direction when it comes to fitness.

"I have a staff of 13 employees that are able to develop workout programs for any participant regardless of physical condition. Please allow us to help you live a longer, better lifestyle," Stevens said.

No matter what stage a person is at in their fitness life, they will be accepted by the fitness center.

"We always strive to accept customers as they are," said Lena Moreau, Altus AFB Fitness Center assistant manager. "We encourage people to forget how [unhealthy] they were and to pursue a healthier future, which can be obtained with proper diet and exercise. If they are willing, we have the expertise to not only encourage, but to teach them the tools they will need to live a healthy lifestyle through fitness."
